Catch 22

Catch 22

There’s a saying in Christianity; “God doesn’t use dirty vessels.” I first heard this, years ago, from an evangelist who came to the church I attended at the time. He sternly declared that God could only use those whose holiness had reached some level that he never...

Find Your Place

In another post I mentioned that serving in a local church provides solid benefits that will change our lives. We learned that as we help God’s people, we reap his help. This leaves us with the question, “In what ways can we serve?” In other words, what has God called...

Our Beliefs

Repentance

We believe repentance is the starting point of our relationship with God. That it’s a decision to turn from “the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors”1 and embrace the full life2 God has for us. That true repentance is more than a one-time act, it’s a process that continues throughout our lives. As God reveals to us unhealthy behaviors and motives, we should respond by seeking his help to transform us.

Faith in God

We believe faith, at its core, is a trusting reliance on God. That our reliance on him rests in our understanding of his character as revealed through his Word3.

Baptisms

We believe there are three types of baptism the believer should seek – in water, in the Holy Spirit, and into the body of Christ. That water baptism symbolizes our commitment to live a holy life; the baptism in the Holy Spirit clothes us with the power of God; and baptism into the body of Christ signifies that we no longer identify with the world, but with other believers.

Laying on of Hands

We believe the laying on of hands is an essential practice for the body of Christ. That it transmits the authority, power and blessings of God from one person to another.

Resurrection of the Dead

We believe God created us as eternal beings and our physical death is only a passage from this life into the next. That, at death, everyone will be resurrected and await judgment.

Eternal Judgment

We believe our eternal nature demands an eternal verdict. In the near future God will render judgment on each of us, based not on our sins, but whether we’ve accepted Christ as the substitute for our sins.

We believe where we spend eternity depends on our relationship with God at the time of death. If we have repented of our old life and placed our faith in Christ, we’ll spend eternity with him. But if we’ve chosen to ignore or reject his grace and mercy, we’ll spend eternity apart from him.
